Three types of hearing loss: what you need to know -2

If you have problems with your hearing, we recommend that you look for a reliable audiologist and evaluate your condition appropriately. There are three types of hearing loss, each of which requires appropriate assessment.

There are three types of hearing loss with corresponding cause and treatment:

Conductive deafness

Definition: This type is a condition that prevents the passage of sound passing from the outer ear into the middle ear and passing through the inner ear. This may require more energy and loudness to listen to the sound more clearly.

Cause: Common causes of inflammation of the ear, allergy, abnormal bone growth of the middle ear, punctured eardrum, excessive earwax, or accumulation of body fluids from the common cold.

Treatment: Traditional and contemporary hearing aids are effective devices to correct it. Available hearing techniques can also be used for this type of treatment. These therapies are middle ear implants, bone fixed listening devices and bone conduction aid.

Sensory hearing loss

Definition: Sensorineural is the most typical type. It involves the inner ear problem or the auditory nerve. With sensorineural hearing loss, it is difficult to transmit nerve signals to the brain, making it difficult to recognize the clarity and volume of the sound.

Cause: You can have it from birth or exposure to intense and noisy noises. Other causes are traumatic injury, side effects due to medicines, ear infections, deterioration due to aging, and the like.

Treatment: There is no complete way to repair the damaged acoustic nerve. Even medical or surgical treatments can not repair small hairy cells that have been damaged by the inner ear. Treatment such as aid and cochlear implant helps solve this problem. The solution depends on the assessment of severity of deafness.

Mixed hearing loss

Definition: From the name itself, it is a combination of conductivity and sensibility. In this type, there is a possibility that you are suffering from external ear / middle ear / inner ear or auditory nerve ear damage. If you are experiencing factors that contributed to these two types of disability, you may have hearing impairment, so we recommend that you request help from the audiologist at once.

Cause: Ear trauma, active ear infections, all of the causes of conduction and sensorineural hearing loss can contribute to this hearing problem.

Treatment: Proper treatment depends on which components are more pronounced, whether they are conductive or sensitive. Medical and surgical procedures are the right choice if it is a lot of conductor factor. Hearing aids and implantable hearing devices are an effective solution when there are many losses in sensory neural elements.

Knowing these types of hearing loss helps you to recognize whether the cause and treatment have problems. However, even if you have not experienced these difficulties, it is still advisable to schedule checks. There is nothing wrong with monitoring your overall health condition, including hearing tests.
