 Cholestatic liver disease -2

The term "cholestasis" means "the bile is still still". When the flow of bile in the body is disturbed, the level of cholestasis in the body rises. Middle-aged women over 40 years old are typically suffering from chronic type cholestatic liver disease. This type of disease is called "primary biliary cirrhosis."

Diagnosis

Approximately 90% of patients diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis are women over 40 years old. Women living in northern Europe tend to be more susceptible to this disease than women in other parts of the world. Women in Japan have the lowest rate of diagnosed cases of this disease.

Diagnosis of cholestatic liver disease is based on a combination of many findings and tests. Among these factors are cholestatic stasis liver enzymes, positive anti-mitochondrial antibodies, and characteristic liver biopsy findings. The most common laboratory finding is the detection of serum alkaline phosphate elevation from the liver. The presence of anti-mitochondrial antibodies is the most characteristic laboratory findings in cholestatic liver disease. More than 95% of all patients suffering from this disease are tested positive for anti-mitochondrial antibodies.

Symptoms and symptoms

The most common symptom of this disorder is fatigue. 70 to 80% of all patients suffering from this disease experience this condition. However, fatigue is generally not an indication of the severity of this disease. As the disorder progresses, other symptoms such as hypertension may occur. As this disorder progresses further, the ability to absorb fat soluble vitamins will continue to decline. As the disorder progresses further, autoimmune diseases begin to develop. For example, a patient with this disorder may begin to develop autoimmune thyroid disease and the development of inflammatory bowel disease.
