Termites: Unpleasant Guests, Part I Wood Boring Insects & Fungi -2

If the moisture content of building materials is 20% or more, in most cases molds and molds can occur in the house. (You should notice a smelly smell). A good plan of attack starts with a decrease in humidity and an increase in ventilation. Keep a negative slope away from your home. Please be sure to pull out water properly from the wall of the base without rubble at the stairwell, the lower spout, and the drain.

Wood-rotting fungus attacks wet wood, or wood in a very moist, badly ventilated place. It may cause serious damage to wooden structures. To prevent spoilage, remove the moisture source and improve ventilation as in molds and molds. Damp spoilage is black and sponge-like wood, members infected by dry spoilage are brittle and cracked.

Subterranean termites are found in southern Ontario and British Columbia, eat wood and damage houses. Termite colonies make nests underground and wood eats food to satisfy the appetite of cellulose. Termites move on the ground via shelter tubes made of sawdust and saliva and can often move home. Termites are like ants, but there are straight bodies and antennas.

Carpenter ants and powder post beetles are also common in South Ontario. They do not consume timber like termites, but colonies nested in wood are considered to be damaged. Look for sawdust and flask (excrement) near the exit hole of the wood. A carpenter's bee resembles a bumblebee in appearance and forms a nest in an external space such as the back side of the fascia, lower body or other trim.

Avoid touching the soil of trees around the house, keeping the outer trim in good condition, so that you do not approach the house. Keep fine trees harvested, remove tree stumps and periodically check evacuation centers tubes and signs of damage. Pay particular attention to wooden decks and stairs, places where structures ride on the foundation walls, especially places where crawling places and archs are located. Since termites often do not leave signs of the surface, they will search for wooden structures with sharp instruments.

Find the tube of the evacuation center, crack the foundation wall and check where the pipe enters the outer wall. Termites gather to create new colonies that are close to cellulose sources. Especially, in spring there are many flight insects and thrown feathers, please come to watch.

If you suspect a colony, especially a termite, contact the local environmental agency or contact the pro expert who obtained the license.
