1. What is the type of rentable car?
Renting a car in Costa Rica is more expensive than in the United States. Therefore, most people owe a smaller compact car, which is cheaper.
Prices vary and we will pay more in the high season. About 20 dollars or more per day. Christmas / New Year's rent adds more than $ 50 a week. I examine cars from 5 car rental companies in Costa Rica, and the average to borrow a small car like Toyota Yaris is about $ 205 per week. it depends. Driving in Costa Rica compared to other countries is in most cases a very horrible proposition. Costa Rica is one of the highest car accident rates in the world. Traffic law and speed limits are often ignored. Crazy paths and illegal lines across traffic lanes are common. Turn signals are rarely used and dangerous passage is common. So it is possible that you are running a car. A sudden car in the car is blinded, so the lane is wrong. The state of the road is bad, and a big hole that causes serious damage to the car is common.
Although the road condition in the beach area is getting worse, actual driving is not congestion, traffic volume is small, roads are not the best people, so we tend to drive a bit late.
I like to borrow a car with my transportation, but it depends on the level of your comfort. I discovered that friends and family who never drove outside the United States became a fun adventure of dreadful things. So please make it easy and slow. And you will be fine. 3. Do you need rent-a-car insurance?
Under the law, responsibility insurance for INS (Instituto Nacional de Seguros) is required regardless of the scope of your car insurance or credit card range. The insurance required by law is known as TPL, SLI, SLC or API. The cost is 10 to 20 US dollars per day depending on the vehicle. This insurance covers damage only to others, cars, or property. You need to purchase supplement coverage to cover rental cars or damages to themselves. But because your insurance coverage is covered by your auto insurance policy or credit card, please call your home insurance agency before leaving for Costa Rica and your insurance policy will cover you damage to Costa Rica Please ask if it is. You can also call the same question by calling the credit card issuing company. Your own policy covers you, as you set up, and you do not need supplementary coverage. If they do not cover you, I propose to take the supplementary policy provided by the car rental agency.
Optional CDW or LDW - Damage exemption exemption covering the deductible amount of the car which varies according to the type of car and agency. The cost is 10 to 20 USD per day.

4. What are the conditions of rental in Costa Rica?
Because necessary conditions may differ depending on the car agency you use, please confirm. In most cases, you need a valid driver's license (from your country or country), a valid passport with an entry stamp, and Costa Rica's obligation insurance coverage. You must be over 21 years old.
5. Is it safe to drive at night?

One final tip
Please make a copy of your passport's profile page and entry stamp and carry it with your rent-a-car paper. You may be dropped by the police and you need to show it to them. Do not take it with you with your passport. The Costa Rican government can now carry a copy instead of an actual passport.
