Two basic types of exercise, aerobic and muscle or resistance training, have been studied extensively as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. Researchers at Lanzhou University in Lanzhou, China summarized 37 studies on these two types of motion and analyzed them as one extensive study. They discovered that a combination of two types of exercise is best for controlling blood glucose levels. Their result was in July 2018 International Journal on Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity.
This study included 2208 participants diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Both types of physical activity improved blood glucose control compared to no exercise, but combination training reduced HbA1c levels than either exercise alone ...
- Supervised aerobic activity improved 0.6% more HbA1c level than supervised aerobic exercise, improved weight loss by more than 5 kg.
- Supervised muscle training showed that it is more beneficial than without exercise in reducing systolic (top) blood pressure and total cholesterol levels.
Systolic blood pressure Every time the heart beats, it is a measure of the blood's force against the wall of the artery. It should not exceed 120 mm of Hg, some experts recommend that Hg maintain a level of 110 mm or less.
Ideal weight For most individuals the body mass index (BMI) should be 18 to 25. This is calculated as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of height and can be easily done on an online computer that requires only height and weight. If you measure the amount of fat using a sonogram, you get better images, but this is not practical for most settings.
